PROJECT PURPOSE

Tulsa Inclusive Entertainment (DBA Twisted Arts) was created to highlight the diversity and creativity of Oklahoma to LGBTQ+ artists from across the country, while supporting Oklahoma LGBTQ+ artists. Twisted Arts has hires local artists for performances, film screenings and community events. Most recently we screened a short film about the first LGBTQ+ comedy club in the United States with local comedians performing after the screening to a sold-out 130 seat theater at Circle Cinema. In addition, we will host our second annual Twisted Arts Film Festival in November. It is the goal of Twisted Arts to strengthen the LGBTQ+ and Oklahoma artist economy while attracting and retaining new LGBTQ+ Oklahoma residents.

EVIDENCE

Twisted Arts is a celebration of LGBTQ+ creativity. Our goal is to provide a safe space for dialogue and to foster an appreciation for LGBTQ+ visibility through all forms of media and the arts. Twisted Arts is a much needed cultural outlet for the LGBTQ+ communities in Oklahoma and crucial services to the vitality of Oklahoma LGBTQ+ artists, designers, performers and creators.

POPULATION DESCRIPTION

The constituency served by Twisted Arts is primarily the LGBTQ+ communities and allies of Tulsa and Northeastern OK. A guiding principle of our organization is the belief that education goes far beyond classroom learning and that all people can be enriched through programming that is relevant to historically underserved communities. Twisted Arts is increasing awareness of the issues facing the LGBTQ+ community while providing financial benefits to artists in Oklahoma. Due to the closure of venues during COVID, many artists in Oklahoma lost income, as well as, venues. Now that venues are open again, we create opportunities for LGBTQ+ artists to get paid, as well as, gain exposure for future events. LGBTQ+ artist communities in Oklahoma are often marginalized, underrepresented and more vulnerable than our heterosexual allies.

PERFORMANCE MEASURING

For every event, we collect audience surveys to evaluate the strengths, weaknesses and demographic patterns. Participants are polled in regard to the educational effectiveness, entertainment value and cultural impact. We also rely greatly on recommendations solicited from speakers and advisory committee members. All findings are incorporated into planning for future events.
