PROJECT PURPOSE
Mill Creek is a small Town (340) people, equal distant between Sulphur and Tishomingo. It is 18 miles to each town. There is nothing in our park for little kids to do. We do have a ball field. We also have a walking track. Both are used by larger children and adults. If a parent wants to go to a park with swingsets and playground equipment, they have drive a distance equal to driving from downtown Oklahoma City to Harrah or to Newcastle. That is prohibitive in terms of time. With COVID 19, many parks have been closed and inaccessible even if a parent could get kids there. There are 340 persons in town, and 172 are enrolled in Mill Creek School (K thru 12). People don't mail in water bills, they come in person to pay their water wills and each person seems to have a story or request for services, which Mill Creek cannot afford to offer. In fact the town just has one profit center and that is a convenience store and gas station. For additional funds, we hold Pancake Breakfasts and Spaghetti Suppers. Exercise and fresh air will be great for children and their parents.
EVIDENCE
Everyone knows that with COVID, everyone has had two years of being restricted from all sorts of municipal and state resources. It is a known fact that exercise is essential for good health. There are no public places to do these exercises in or even near Mill Creek. It will be a great way to get the parents using our walking track.. The park is a wholesome place to get your exercise and form habits that will last a life time.
POPULATION DESCRIPTION
Little children have virtually be captives to play and exercise in their own home or yard. No one wanted to get out in crowds. Parents were protective of their little children when no vaccines were accessible. Little children simply must rely on parents to safeguard them from dangers such as COVID 19.
PERFORMANCE MEASURING
Each year, the Mill Creek City hall is open to children at Halloween and Christmas. The City Hall is full of children and their parents. We will use a simple questionnaire, offer a tiny prize for participating in the questionnaire. We will have no trouble at all in getting responses from the children and parents.
