PROJECT PURPOSE
The First United Methodist Church of Beggs is in need of funding to restore our main sanctuary to enable full use of the building. Due to the current state of disrepair, the sanctuary is not safe for use. Built in 1931, the church has served the Beggs community in countless worship services, weddings, baptisms, and funerals. We feel it is an essential part of the past and future of Beggs, and is worthy of restoring for future generations to enjoy. Our congregation is a vital part of the Beggs community, providing backpacks of school supplies to local children, opening up for Christmas craft shows, providing meeting space for support groups, and our annual vacation bible school. In 2004, the building was designated as a Historic Oklahoma Landmark.
EVIDENCE
Restoration of a community centered, historical building will provide further opportunities to serve our community as a resource for meeting space, and increase our capacity for community outreach such as nutrition assistance.
POPULATION DESCRIPTION
Our congregation has suffered losses of contributions in relation to reduced attendance due to concerns of the pandemic in our aging population. Further, our capacity to provide services such as school supply outreach, support group meeting space, etc., has been greatly reduced.
PERFORMANCE MEASURING
Contractors will be requested to bid on individual segments of restoration, and supply deadlines for each phase of their segment of restoration. Project coordinator will hold all contractors accountable to their segment, review and approve invoices, and oversee payment.
