PROJECT PURPOSE

We have been approved for smart waters meters. We have received a portion of what we need for the meters but still need 100,000 for the project. These smart meters will significantly reduce loss of revenue every year due to faulty meters.

EVIDENCE

The new smart waters have been proven to be effective. Each meter uses radio frequencies to transmit information in real time to the city offices. The system helps to quickly identify if there is an issue with a meter or a leak in the system. It will potentially help discover and pinpoint underground issues, allowing Public Works employee's to track the most critical points in the system.

POPULATION DESCRIPTION

There are many small rural communities that have lots of work needing to be done but due to lack or revenue, they cannot. Some small towns have spent years dealing with issues mainly involving roads and water. This program will help many communities to find relief is getting these long awaited projects completed.

PERFORMANCE MEASURING

A test was completed by DEQ in 2019. Our PWA supervisor was told that we lose approximately $20,000.00 a year in water due to faulty meter. These smart meters have been tested and have had great results in other municipalities. We will be monitoring usage once we get the new meters.
