PROJECT PURPOSE
For a municipality, safety of our road users is paramount. Luminaires at signalized intersections illuminate the areas in the city where vehicular, pedestrian, and bicycle road users all converge. This allocation will assure the safest system possible.
EVIDENCE
. Proper illumination will mean more people will be out utilizing all of our sidewalks and crosswalks during non-daylight hours.
POPULATION DESCRIPTION
The biggest thing that we can attribute to the pandemic is the frustration with being cooped up at home unable to be out as we would like. Having a system that will alert us when one of our the luminaires on our traffic signal assemblies is not working will allow the city to be more proactive to maintenance of these luminaires in the future thereby reducing the likelihood that our citizens will experience improperly lit intersections. Funding this project will serve as a huge boost to those inclined to walk and bike in Norman. The majority of revenues coming into the City of Norman are sales tax based. During the pandemic these have either been flat or below average. This has created a situation where new projects such as this one have been difficult to fund locally.
PERFORMANCE MEASURING
The conversion to LED will result in the use of a more reliable fixture that will exhibit a longer life with more consistent lighting. Also, the volume of citizen complaint calls and social media posts will be drastically reduced.
