PROJECT PURPOSE

The City of Hominy solicited proposals and qualifications from qualified and interested firms specializing in drainage to review the flooding that has occurred in the community with an emphasis on the southern portion of the city. The goal of the study is to utilize GIS and field data to identify the local behavior of storm runoff and existing drainage infrastructure limitations and provide solutions to eliminate or reduce flooding in the study area. Ultimately, the study shall provide the city with at least three (3) recommendations to mitigate flooding in the affected areas

EVIDENCE

Prior to making any improvements, a defined engineering plan that outlines work required and associated cost to mitigate the damages from flooding in the area is needed. Once the plan is complete, the City will determine how to finance the needed improvments.

POPULATION DESCRIPTION

The area where most of the flooding occurs is lower income. Continued flooding will force residents to seek other residences possibly outside of the City of Hominy. Any loss in population will affect water and wastewater budgets which depend on the revenue from homeowners paying water and sewer bills.
