PROJECT PURPOSE

McClain Grady County EMS provides ambulance service to the citizens of Newcastle, Dibble, and Blanchard School Districts. The District is funded by ad valorem taxes derived from these three school districts and monies collected for transporting patients to the hospital. For the last 27 months, the employees of McClain Grady County EMS have worked tirelessly on the front lines with very little time off work due to the national shortage of Paramedics and EMTs to make sure that the citizens in the District?s coverage area had an ambulance in their time of need. Being short-staffed has caused an increase in the payroll budget due to mandatory overtime. That along with the rising cost of medical supplies, equipment and fuel has left no room in the budget to provide hazard pay to the District?s employees. The COVID stimulus money and grants that the District has obtained have all gone to purchase much-needed equipment to ensure the safety of our employees amidst the COVID pandemic. As a way to show appreciation to our employees being able to provide hazard pay at a rate of $250.00 per pay period that is worked for 30 essential employees until requested funding is depleted. This would significantly boost morale and increase the potential to hire additional Paramedics and EMTs that we so desperately need.

EVIDENCE

The evidence will be in retaining current employees and hiring additional employees.

POPULATION DESCRIPTION

By providing hazard pay to the Districts employees we will be able to retain the Paramedics and EMTs that we currently have and this will ensure that the citizens of Newcastle, Dibble, and Blanchard School Districts will have an ambulance to respond to their medical emergencies. Like all communities across the United States, the pandemic has caused a significant shortage of trained Paramedics and EMTs to work on ambulances.

PERFORMANCE MEASURING

The goal of this project is to show appreciation to our frontline workers. The project's success will be measured by retaining current personnel and being able to recruit and hire additional Paramedics and EMTs over the next 6-12 months.
