PROJECT PURPOSE

ARPA-CCB-2101 - Trail Signs - Cabin Creek Battlefield was the site of two key engagements between Union and Confederate forces in Indian Territory during the Civil War. Sixty-seven acres of this battlefield are preserved, but there is little interpretation at the site and limited accessibility. This project will make it possible to place interpretative signage on the site to tell the story of the events that happened here and provide accessible trails linking the interpretation. The main road into the main interpretive area needs to be regraded and graveled to along better access for low cars and RVs. Upgrading this battlefield will allow it to be linked in a Civil War Trail connecting with the historic sites of Hunter?s Home, Fort Gibson, Honey Springs Battlefield, and Fort Towson.
