PROJECT PURPOSE

this project will provide less-tan-lethal training, tools, and equipment for OHP Troopers. The De-escalation program will train Troopers on methods to used to de-escalate high-risk situations, with lethal options being the last option.

EVIDENCE

De-escalation training is essential for any law enforcement officer. Law enforcement agencies are providing more training on less-than-lethal- methods to provide the officer more tools to use during high-risk events. These methods reduce the risk of fatal injuries to either the subject or the officer.

POPULATION DESCRIPTION

Less-than-lethal tools are being used by law enforcement agencies across the nation. Tasers, rubber bullets, and pepper spray are some of the tools being used to de-escalate and control high-risk events. These less-than-lethal methods are effective in removing the subject from the situation without fatally harming her or him.

PERFORMANCE MEASURING

The statement of work will consist of the purchase of tools and equipment for each trooper, including training material. The measurement will be acceptance of curriculum and operational readiness of the de-escalation tools and equipment.
