PROJECT PURPOSE

Program designed for inner city youth and retired adults that establishes work ethics and environmental awareness. The plan is to teach students Horticulture for underserved local areas to improve beautification and sustain proper growth of nutritional foods. The second part is training for the Floralculture industry. Learning growing techniques, and developing farm flowers through green house and incubation systems. Irrigation and other aspects of raising both food and plants. Other benefits are natural products such as soaps, beauty products, candles and home essentials made from the Floral plants. Focusing on two professions, Florists and Land developers. Suggested emphasis is for golf courses, and mortuary designers. These are needed professions that have endured and will continue to thrive.

POPULATION DESCRIPTION

The population for this community is the working poor. There is no gym, community center, park, walking trail, health facility or grocery store within 6 miles. It is a very vulnerable area especially for our youth. They need to be mentally stimulated and need to be able to experience outdoor health benefits and fresh food. This area is grossly disproportionate. This program needs funding to help with new skill sets and giving the residents a sense of security and City/Governmental concern. As they now feel no one cares. The are no amenities available and no transit availability for safe hours of travel. The Covid Pamdemic caused further loss of mom and pop businesses, in which most of the youth walked. As the business owners received PPP and other Federal funding they relocated to better areas of town. The food outlets do not deliver to this community for it is the beginning of rural areas. The Floralculture and Horticulture projects can help with beautification and job opportunities. And with the completion certification start a new sense of pride for its residents.

PERFORMANCE MEASURING

The local Vocational Education schools as well as the Garden Center and Community Farms have given needed information for measuring the performance of the program. The community has shown great support to program. It provides new skills for the youth and promotes healthy eating and outdoor activity for both the children and senior citizens. The interaction for both is good because the youth promote modern technology and the Senior adults still can fulfill their commitment and leadership roles. Program data is reported quarterly based on participants response and economic revenue.
