PROJECT PURPOSE

Rehabilitation of the raw water intake structure on the Verdigris River that feeds water to the water plant for treatment. POPULATION DESCRIPTION

53% of Nowata's population falls in the low to moderate income level, households receive TANF, SNAP, NSLLP, SBP, Medicare Part D, SSI, WIC, and LIHEAP. Everyone has the same needs for safety, health and medical response. We are one of the poorest counties in the state but have the same public health needs and responsibilities. Many in the community ended up on unemployment. Our elderly and disabled population struggled even more as prices for basic needs went up. Everyone suffered with shortages of paper products, sanitizer and grocery items. Water was the most valuable resource anyone had in this pandemic due to the need for more handwashing and cleaning.
