PROJECT PURPOSE

La Luz is a 501c3 culturally specific faith based non profit that helps victims of Domestic Violence, Sexual assault and stalking with advocacy.

EVIDENCE

Latinos are being underserved nationally, we don't even have accurate data on Latino victims nationally or locally. From the statistic taken in the late 90s by Casa De Esperanza we know that only 1 out of 9 shelters have Spanish speaking advocates. In Oklahoma we are the only Culturally specific faith based organization offering services to Latino victims.

POPULATION DESCRIPTION

We know that the immigrant community was effected due to not a lot of information was being given in Spanish, employers where given one mask per staff and the spread of corvid escalated due to the lack of understanding in how to wear mask, Undocumented Latinos did not get stimulus money during the shut down. As for victims of Domestic Violence, victim returned with their abuser due to them not being able to afford expenses with out working, the violence increased, children services reports increased due the violence at home. We are also seeing that sexual assault/ molestation cases have increased due to the pandemic.

PERFORMANCE MEASURING

During the pandemic our numbers have risen, as the only culturally specific victim services provider in the state we are being swapped with clients seeking our services or having collaborating partners requesting our assistance to serve non English speakers with services. We need financial assistance to keep heling victims for free.
