PROJECT PURPOSE
This project is to improve sidewalks in Norman. Currently there are many sidewalks throughout Norman that have trip hazards exceeding ¬Ω inch which is in violation of Americans with Disabilities Act Accessibility Guidelines (ADAAG) and the Public Right of Way Accessibility Guidelines (PROWAG). These trip hazards make it difficult for individuals with disabilities to safely utilize the public sidewalks. The City has utilized horizontal saw cut technology for the past 4 years to correct tripping hazards on Norman sidewalks. Using this technology, the City is able to complete a repair for approximately 1/3 the cost of replacing panels. A large number of trip hazards can be addressed in this manner freeing up funding for larger sidewalk repair projects or sidewalk construction to complete sidewalk gaps.

POPULATION DESCRIPTION
This project will have a positive impact on all users of sidewalks including people with disabilities and pedestrians. The current sidewalk system is incomplete and damaged along many streets throughout Norman. Individuals with disabilities rely on the public sidewalk system for transportation to work, shopping and recreation. This project would allow all users including those with disabilities a better quality of life. During the COVID-19 pandemic all populations were negatively impacted by a loss of transportation alternatives. This project will increase these opportunities throughout Norman.
PERFORMANCE MEASURING
This project will be difficult to track metrics to verify success. However, the City logs and responds to all sidewalk and ADA complaints received. These could be watched over time to determine if there has been a reduction in citizen complaints in the corridor showing a better level of service.
