PROJECT PURPOSE

Significantly enhances the capabilities of current outdated system. Body Worn Camera products provide unmatched accountability, transparency, and documentation of officers and citizen conduct. BWC systems can improve safety of those involved in law enforcement interactions and provide improved training of law enforcement officers. Current system is outdated and in need of critical updates to remain operational.

EVIDENCE

With the deployment of our previous BWC system, the department found significant use by all employees. The department has, on several occasions, been able to use the system to provide accountability of employees and community activities, and provide necessary transparency to our community when needed the most.

POPULATION DESCRIPTION

Operation of a Body Worn Camera system within a modern law enforcement agency is a basic expectation of many communities, including ours. Use of the tools is a critical part of ensuring employees are providing professional services to our community. Using such a tool increases department accountability, transparency and can often build trust with vulnerable communities. As we continue to recognize the economic and societal impacts of the pandemic the number of vulnerable populations in contact with law enforcement has continued to increase. Providing this level of trust and relationship building with the community is critical now more than ever.

PERFORMANCE MEASURING

Evaluation of this programs performance will be measured by the number of recordings made, the number of recordings released to the public/media, resolution of complaints, and evaluation of employee conduct. Each of these systems is currently in place with prior data available for comparison.
