PROJECT PURPOSE

The purpose of the project will be to support victims of domestic violence and sexual assault through this COVID-19 pandemic to help them address the additional economic, emotional, and medical barriers they now face due to the pandemic. Funding requested will support a full-time Case Manager for our 32-bed domestic violence shelter, a part-time Cook/Sanitizer for our 8,000 sq. foot facility. It will also provide support for general operating of the shelter serving victims from four rural counties.

EVIDENCE

We have seen an increase of 25% in domestic violence and sexual assault, and 35% in child abuse at our agency since the Pandemic began. Nationally, the numbers for domestic violence (related to Covid and its shutdowns) continue to rise. We need more Case Management staff to address this need as well as a Cook/Sanitizer to maintain COVID safety at our shelter.

POPULATION DESCRIPTION

The project will address the needs of rural victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. This population was impacted by the pandemic due to financial and mental health stressors related to the pandemic, isolation and vulnerability in violent homes where the victim was at the mercy of an abuser, community shutdowns, loss of employment, illness and COVID, lack of local resources and affordable safe housing, lack of public transportation to access services, and food instability.

PERFORMANCE MEASURING

The proposed staff positions will be required to collect service data daily and provide it to the agency's full-time Grant Administrator monthly for required State reporting. All financial documentation will be maintained by the Office Manager and outside CPA.
