PROJECT PURPOSE

The Darlington Royse Ranch Broadband Extension Project intends to extend fiber optic cable from the main campus of Redlands Community College in El Reno, Ok to its satellite campuses at Darlington and Royse ranch. Currently, these satellite campuses are connected to the main college campus via Point-To-Point Wireless at around 500Mb/sec. Both natural and atmospheric interference degrades this connection at random times, usually during severe weather events, and prevents reliable connections between the satellite campuses and the main campus. By extending fiber optic cable to both satellite campuses we hope to ensure 1Gb/sec connection speeds between the Darlington/Royse Ranch campuses and to both the main campus and to the Internet. Darlington and Royse Ranch rely on their wireless connection to the main campus for Internet access. The unreliability of this connection means that remote learning opportunities, now a requirement during the COVID pandemic, are not available. This project will allow reliable and stable Internet connection to remote learning tools such as Zoom video conferencing , Blackboard online learning service, or any other online learning aids for classroom presentations.

EVIDENCE

Loss of connectivity due to environmental conditions has existed since Redlands acquired both properties.

POPULATION DESCRIPTION

Redlands Agriculture students, faculty, and staff are at a distinct disadvantage because of the lack of broadband connectivity in the classrooms and office space.

PERFORMANCE MEASURING

All hardware and fiber optic cable to purchased and installed will be minimum 1Gb/sec in throughput by manufacturer standards. After implementation simple tests will be run to demonstrate download and upload speed between both Satellite Campuses, the main campus, and the Internet.
