PROJECT PURPOSE
The purpose is to replace the dam road at Waurika Lake dam. The road is not a state, county or local road. The dam is 13,000 feet long and the road is needed to maintain the dam and water supply for Lawton-Ft Sill, Duncan, Comanche, Temple, Walters and Waurika. The current road surface is over 20 years old and it is time to replace it.
EVIDENCE
Failure to maintain the roadway on top of a 13,000 foot long earthen dam would lead to dam failure. The purpose of the dam is water supply and flood control. All dams need maintenance, long before failure.
POPULATION DESCRIPTION
All six of the WLMCD communities saw impact. There was loss of tax revenue. And the associated cost of the big freeze of 2021 was enormous for all six cities. The purpose of this request is to assure that future costs from WLMCD to all six cities are reduced. The approximate population served by WLMCD is 225,000.
PERFORMANCE MEASURING
The road is evaluated regularly. It was last repaired in 2001. Some patch repairs hav been made. The road was last evaluated by WLMCD's engineer and US Army Corps of Engineers personnel.
