PROJECT PURPOSE
The City of Norman, like many other government agencies is experiencing an increase in the amount of digital data that must be stored. This data includes large data file types like video data from body worn cameras, surveillance footage, interview footage, and many other data times used for public safety and daily business operations. The City IT Department needs to expand the amount of storage as it has grown over the past several years.
EVIDENCE
An increase in data storage as technology expands has been studied over the years by the IT Department. We have observed continual growth without any dips in the data trend.
POPULATION DESCRIPTION
The diverse population in the City of Norman Oklahoma, from the wealthiest to those living close to poverty, will benefit from this data expansion project. The ability to hold critical data related to public safety and citizen interaction is essential for justice, and the accuracy in which services are delivered to all residents. All citizens suffered reduced services from the pandemic, and because of lock downs in the community many small business owners suffered the worst and were forced to close their doors, leaving many jobless during a very trying time nationally.
PERFORMANCE MEASURING
The data storage needs continue to grow on a daily basis and critical data files like video and audio evidence will only continue to increase as technology expands. The expansion of data storage will have an immediate impact on the ability to hold more data.
