PROJECT PURPOSE

ARPA-OTM-2102 - Exhibits - Constructed in the 1970s the Oklahoma Territorial Museum tells the story of the Oklahoma?s development from the land openings to statehood. This project will improve the visitor experience by replacing the 20-year old exhibits. Work included in the project is a redesign of the space, graphic production, and installation, installation of new flooring, case working, painting and lighting system that will generate energy savings.

EVIDENCE

Our projects utilize local or regional contractors to perform the work and draw local, state and national visitation to the area thus boosting the local economy from construction activities and tourism for the area and state.


POPULATION DESCRIPTION

The communities and local businesses around this site were impacted by the state shutdown and the decline of tourism as a result of the COVID pandemic. The local communities, municipalities and businesses lost revenue from sales, lodging, taxes and other tourism related benefits. This project benefits everyone by employing local businesses to create or improve local attractions and facilities to improve local tourism and community programing. The museum is located in Guthrie the county seat of Logan County. The population of the county (49,555) is concentrated in Guthrie with a population of 40,964. The median age of the population in Guthrie is 37. The median household income is $41,739 compared to $65,367 for the county as a whole. The poverty rate with the city is 21% compared to 12% for the county. 11% of the population under 65 is disabled. The main employers in the community are health care, social assistance, retail, energy production, and agriculture.

Project performance will be measured by visitation statistics with our current monthly statistical tracking system and tracking earned income at the site.
