PROJECT PURPOSE

The members of our Power Youth Mentoring Program will collectively create  REAL businesses that will benefit their local community. Over the course of 12 months, all members will go through an entrepreneurship curriculum to help them understand how to build a sustainable and profitable business. Along with building their own business, all members will work together to find ways to support other Black businesses in the surrounding areas.  Through this program, we will empower each member to become educated financially, while helping them curate businesses that can help support their local communities and contribute to the local economy.  Within 5 years, we will successfully create 5 separate businesses and partner with 100 plus businesses (i.e. vendors, suppliers, etc.) along the journey.

POPULATION DESCRIPTION

This program will help support and improve the economic structure of low-income/underserved communities.  This will also help us re-build the authenticity of Black Wall Street and why it was originally created.  Black business owners need ongoing support to be able to fully thrive and provide an income for their families/legacy.  During the pandemic, the percentage of Black business owners declined from 6.1% to 4.7%. Although that number has increased as of 2021, the Black business owner statics still show that Black Tulsans are in the most significant deficit compared to other races - proven by the Tulsa Mayor's Office Equality Indicator study. The Black community, as a whole, deserves the right to be able to generate an income via out-of-the-box concepts to be able to supplement the income that may not be enough from their 9 to 5 jobs.  If we are able to teach this at an early age, we will have future leaders growing up in a society that knows what it means to be a servant leader along with strategically building generational wealth for their future families and those they interact within their communities.

PERFORMANCE MEASURING

Each business group will complete a 12-month entrepreneurship curriculum.  One measurement will be the success of the knowledge transfer during each training session along with how successful the program participants can implement what they learned - individually and collectively.  We will also be able to measure the success of the program based on how successful each business is along with the day-to-day interaction each program member will have with surrounding businesses.  Each business will be required to keep a journal of the journey.  We will also have specific datasheets from an organization level to keep track of all KPIs.
