PROJECT PURPOSE
This is an ongoing project that will provide a study on repurposing the inactive water tower on Lindsey Avenue to a non-potable water storage tower. The non-potable water will allow for water conservation by providing for irrigation and other non-potable water purposes in the area, lessening the demand on potable water sources. In addition to repurposing the water tower, non-potable waterlines will be installed and connected to the tower.
EVIDENCE
The Water Conservation Plan and Strategic Water Supply Plan created by the NUA illustrate the need for increased water with increases in the population. Conserving water by providing a non-potable source from out wastewater effluent will lower the demand on drinking water.
POPULATION DESCRIPTION
All communities in Norman will benefit from this project. By conserving our water and proving non-potable sources, the need for increased water each year decreases, lowering the impact to the community.
PERFORMANCE MEASURING
Once the project is complete, NUA will bill those using the non-potable water a rate similar to that already provided to the University of Oklahoma for irrigating their golf course. The NUA will provide regular painting and maintenance/inspection of the tower to ensure it?s in proper working condition.
