PROJECT PURPOSE

Sanitary Sewer Collection System Upgrades: replacing 10,000 linear feet of old sanitary sewer line with PVC piping and 25 old brick manholes with modern concrete manholes in the oldest section of the original townsite with a majority of LMI residents

EVIDENCE

new pvc pipe is more durable than old clay pipe and new concrete manholes provide for high capacity volume better than brick, mortar and dirt manholes.

POPULATION DESCRIPTION

This project will benefit old homes in the original townsite area with a majority of the homes being built in the 1920s. This area is in a flood plain, and residents endure sewer issues when floods occur due to higher amounts of storm water in the sanitary sewer system. Replacing the clay piping and brick manholes will provide for increased capacities and cause less sewer issues for residents in this area.

PERFORMANCE MEASURING

Performance will be measured by less sewer backups from new collection pipes and manholes, comparing past data on sewer line issues for residents while mitigating any broken line issues due to old pipes and manholes caving in.
