PROJECT PURPOSE
This project is to improve sidewalks in Norman. One project of concern is 12th Avenue NE from Alameda street to Rock Creek Road. Currently along 12th Avenue NE the sidewalks are damaged, not meeting ADA or never constructed. This corridor has many sidewalk complaints and is a busy corridor for people with disabilities utilizing it to access shopping or recreation. Griffin Community Park (soccer complex), Sutton Wilderness Park and 12th Avenue Recreation Center are located along this corridor. The Norman Veteran?s Center and J.D. McCarty Center are located east of this corridor. The Norman Citizens ADA Committee has identified this as an important corridor for people with disabilities. Providing safe access to mobility and sight challenged users would be of a great benefit allowing more access to shopping and recreation.

POPULATION DESCRIPTION
This project will have a positive impact on all users of sidewalks including people with disabilities and pedestrians. The current sidewalk system is incomplete and damaged along the corridor. There several institutions near this corridor with a large number of mobility challenges that rely on the sidewalks to access shopping and recreation. This project would allow them a better quality of life. During the COVID-19 pandemic these populations were negatively impacted by a loss of transportation alternatives. This project will increase these opportunities along this roadway.
PERFORMANCE MEASURING
This project will be difficult to track metrics to verify success. However, the City logs and responds to all sidewalk and ADA complaints received. These could be watched over time to determine if there has been a reduction in citizen complaints in the corridor showing a better level of service.
