PROJECT PURPOSE
The purpose of the project is to improve infrastructure on campus through installation of a generator for backup power for datacenter and Voice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP). Installation of a generator would provide redundant power to the datacenter in the event of frequent power outages. VoIP would provide a technology solution for communication where the current system is dated and will become obsolete.
EVIDENCE
Projects of this capacity have been completed at other campuses in our system and information for the project has been provided by Chief Information Officer that has overseen other projects of this size and scope.
POPULATION DESCRIPTION
The mission at Oklahoma Panhandle State University is to promote excellence in the preparation of students for success in a global community. In order to empower its learners and community, the technology and offering of high?speed broadband access must continue to be accessible and reliable. An upgrade to the technology infrastructure will ensure ongoing institution?wide goals and initiatives are not hindered by technology and are further enhanced with additional, more advanced technology implementations. Improvement to broadband access will be available to the campus community in all facets, including low income housing as well as other residential housing options. Just as the foundation of a building is the most important step in construction, the foundation for campus technology is the campus infrastructure. Ensuring that the underlying infrastructure is built to properly support the current technology needs of the institution as well as support new, upcoming technologies is key to ensuring long?term success for the institution. The upgrade of fiber and network infrastructure will ensure that the infrastructure is an asset and not a barrier to success. The pandemic has made an impact on the need for improved broadband and accessibility to students, employees, and the community in order to facilitate virtual courses and any other needs.
PERFORMANCE MEASURING
The process for measuring project performance includes backup power in the event of frequent power outages so no service disruption affects students and seamless communication.
