PROJECT PURPOSE

New sewer lagoon cell and maintenance of two existing cells.

EVIDENCE

Medicine Park PWA and the OK Department of Environmental Quality entered into a consent order in May of 2016, regarding bypasses of the total retention lagoon facility serving the residents of Medicine Park. Our engineering report has now been approved by DEQ and Rural Development in a plan to get a new lagoon cell. We have completed tasks and remained in contact with DEQ to take steps to eliminate and prevent future bypasses. This cell will do just that.

POPULATION DESCRIPTION

We are a small town of approximately 400 residents but we have hundreds of thousands of people visit Medicine Park every year. This is a huge reason why we need to eliminate any future bypasses. The pandemic has impacted us as we have had to shut down the town for a few months. We are now seeing an increase in people visiting Medicine Park again and the need for the new lagoon cell grows heavier as more people come into town using water and sewage.

PERFORMANCE MEASURING

This project has already been ongoing for about 6 years now. We have gotten a search grant to help with engineer costs. We have also received our final engineering reports that has been approved by DEQ and to Rural Development for approval. We are now needing to obtain funding for this. We would like to avoid getting any loans if possible or have a reduced loan amount as this is a huge project.
