PROJECT PURPOSE
The purpose of the project will be to rehabilitate the Hominy Lake. The dam is in poor condition and serves a population of 3565. The primary purpose of this dam is a water supply lake for the City's water treatment plant. The funding of up to $1 million may be utilized for technical planning, design, and construction assistance for rehabilitation activities that reduce the dam?s risk of failure and increase community preparedness.
EVIDENCE
Hominy Lake has a primary purpose of providing source water to City's water treatment plant and a secondary purpose of recreation and flood control. For this reason, Hominy Lake Dam is a critical resource for Hominy. Hominy Lake is 65 years old, and its condition has declined over time. Repairs are now required that are beyond everyday operation and maintenance. Financial interventions are needed for community name to rehabilitate Hominy Lake Dam.
POPULATION DESCRIPTION
The project would be to rehabilitate Hominy Lake Dam, which serves the City of Hominy. The City is currently under a consent order with DEQ for violations of Safe Drinking Water Act. The estimated cost to upgrade the water treatment is $600,000. The pandemic has exacerbated the financial abilities of Hominy to repair their dam due to the combination of a loss of sales tax revenue from closed businesses and increased costs of materials and construction.
PERFORMANCE MEASURING
The community will consult with an engineering firm and the OWRB to complete the proposed project. The project performance will be measured by the improvement in the condition rating of the dam, and therefore the reduction of risk to downstream communities and water customers.
