OKLAHOMANS PROJECTED TO BENEFIT
ESTIMATED PROJECT DURATION
The purpose of the project will be to rehabilitate the Lake Waxhoma Dam. The dam is in poor or unsatisfactory condition and serves a population of 1034. The primary purpose of this dam is water supply. The funding of up to $1 million may be utilized for technical planning, design, and construction assistance for rehabilitation activities that reduce the dam?s risk of failure and increase community preparedness.
Lake Waxhoma Dam has a primary purpose of providing raw water to the City's water treatment plant and a secondary purpose of recreation. For this reason, Lake Waxhoma Dam is a critical resource for community name. Lake Waxhoma Dam spillway is only 30 years but a dam breach in 2021 destroyed the spillway. The remaining dam is 60 years old and condition has declined over time. Repairs are now required that are beyond everyday operation and maintenance. Financial interventions are needed for Barnsdalle to rehabilitate Waxhoma Dam.
The project would be to rehabilitate Waxhoma Dam, which serves Bsrnsdall. The City has consent orders with DEQ for both their water and wastewater systems, Estimated cost to make improvements is over 3,00,000. The pandemic has exacerbated the financial abilities of Barnsdall to repair their dams due to the combination of a loss of sales tax revenue from closed businesses and increased costs of materials and construction.
The community will consult with an engineering firm and the OWRB to complete the proposed project. The project performance will be measured by the improvement in the condition rating of the dam, and therefore the reduction of risk to downstream communities and water customers.
