PROJECT PURPOSE

The Lake Eufaula Multi Cultural Center Inc. is a 501 © (3) Not for Profit Corporation that was founded in 2007. EIN 26-0574801 The Lake Eufaula Multi-Cultural Center was founded as an organization to establish a multi-cultural center in the Lake Eufaula area which is the crossroads of the Texas Road and the Fort Smith Santa Fe Trail (Hwy. 69 & Hwy 9). Our goal is to build an educational/museum-type facility that would enhance learning opportunities for children in the rural schools in southeast Oklahoma and visitors/vacationers to the Lake Eufaula area. The area is rich in Native American history. Outlaw history is also prevalent through Belle Starr and her companions. Belle Starr is buried on the southeast side of Lake Eufaula near the dam. History of the building of Lake Eufaula, the largest man-made lake in the state of Oklahoma. History of the five counties that touch Lake Eufaula will also be included, McIntosh, Okmulgee, Pittsburg, Muskogee, and Haskell. A Tourist Information Center will also be housed in the facility. Thousands of travelers pass through the area (Hwy69,9 and I-40) some stopping for information and rest stop facilities.

EVIDENCE

There is a need for a Multi-Cultural Center because there is not a facility that has opportunities for education, information, and history of the Lake Eufaula area.

POPULATION DESCRIPTION

The Lake Eufaula area has a high population of people living below the poverty line. Visitors to the Multi-Cultural Center will be encouraged to eat, shop, and stay at businesses surrounding Lake Eufaula, thereby adding tax dollars that help support the local communities and provide the need for employees. The pandemic hit the Lake Eufaula area by restricting growth and limiting businesses and events due to the rise in costs and the need for social distancing. The Multi-Cultural Center has had to delay construction due to the rising cost of construction that is directly linked to the pandemic.

PERFORMANCE MEASURING

The performance of this project will be measured by retrieving data from each visiting group. How many guests, where they are from, and the purpose of their visit will all be recorded in a guest book and then added to a digital database.
