PROJECT PURPOSE

Upgrade and expand broadband service to on-campus and off-campus college facilities. This will include running fiber-optic cable to the south end of campus, unserved student housing, off-campus learning and event facilities.

EVIDENCE

Education requires not only more access to online information and services, but demands wider availability to classrooms, housing, learning centers, event centers, and specialized on-campus and off-campus facilities,

POPULATION DESCRIPTION

The 10-county region served by Murray State College faced higher pre-pandemic unemployment than the rest of the state. This was only made worse by the pandemic. It is critical to provide all resources necessary to ensure students have the best opportunity for success in education, thus enhancing their prospects in the workplace.

PERFORMANCE MEASURING

The primary goals for the project are to ensure that the project is completed within the specified time frame and that the students will benefit by ongoing usage of the new broadband capabilities. The Information Technology department will track data usage for the expanded broadband service to verify that the system is used as expected.
