PROJECT PURPOSE

To create an EV charging infrastructure throughout all City of Norman divisions. By using a smaller 220volt charger the power sources are more readily available and accessible for installation at various locations. These chargers may take up to eight (8) hours to charge a standard EV small car or truck, but are more cost effective and easily installed due to their low power requirements and compact size. A City operated vehicle would plug in when they arrive at their main office where they will not return until the following day. This will give this smaller sized EV charger time to replenish the vehicles onboard batteries. By having this infrastructure available to the City of Norman fleet, the City would be able to purchase more EV vehicles from the annual capital replacement budget plan. Therefore, the City would be replacing gasoline and small diesel engines with EV vehicles at a faster rate than would otherwise be possible.

EVIDENCE

Using the attached calculators and decrease in gallons of fuel per hour will give evidentiary validation that this project is positive for air quality, lower fuel consumption, and increased hours a unit can be on scene before needing to refuel.

POPULATION DESCRIPTION

All citizens in the City of Norman were affected by the pandemic, whether it be by a school, church, or their employer closing. The availabilities of basic amenities at times has been a concern, especially for the City?s elderly citizens, low-income households, and those without transportation. The City of Norman various divisions supports and service all these areas.

PERFORMANCE MEASURING

The efficiency of this project can be measured by total fuel consumption by mileage, fuel consumption by hours operated, total carbon footprint reduction as calculated using the North Carolina State University?s or the Environmental Protection Agency?s carbon footprint calculator for each fossil fuel powered unit that is purchased as an EV unit, calculated per calendar year.
