PROJECT PURPOSE

After years of planning, generous donations and input from the community, the Route 66 Parklands dream is about to become a reality. The project vision is to provide a uniquely beautiful green space that serves as a source of health, education and wellness and to enrich lives and to create a window in to the incredible diversity of arts, culture and nature. Once completed, this project will be administered by a public trust.

EVIDENCE

In fact, research shows that using parks contributes to health in a number of ways, from promoting physical activity to improving mental health and even having the potential to reduce health care costs. The effects of the pandemic have restricted normal social activities and this park will help to foster mental, physical and spiritual wellness.

POPULATION DESCRIPTION

We saw an exponential increase in youth suicide attempts in our community through the emergency rooms of our health facilities. In those cases, especially in K-12, the affects of the pandemic causing them to spend more time isolated, reduced overall social interaction have created issues for our community that we will need to overcome for many years.

PERFORMANCE MEASURING

Project performance will be measured through attendance at this highly activated park with free year round programs appealing to diverse groups. Activation considerations include eco tourism and habitat creation, health and wellness, seasonal agriculture events, multi generational activities, child's playground and interactive art.
