PROJECT PURPOSE
Durant Schools is opening a new elementary school on a main corridor between the middle and east portions of Durant. We request traffic lights be installed on Gerlach/Washington (middle sector) and Gerlach/1st (east sector) in order to ensure consistent traffic flow between US 69/75 north of these streets and Durant businesses while also prioritizing patron safety.
EVIDENCE
The school has already conferred with the Oklahoma Department of Transportation and the City of Durant who unanimously agree these traffic light installations need to be prioritized.
POPULATION DESCRIPTION
Bryan County has been greatly impacted by the pandemic. These traffic light installations are located on a route to the local hospital, doctor offices, and other vital community services needed by local residents and businesses and is imperative to ensure local businesses are not further negatively affected.
PERFORMANCE MEASURING
Durant Schools, along with the City of Durant and Oklahoma Department of Transportation, will work together to measure project performance utilizing traffic records and traffic flow.
