PROJECT PURPOSE

Implementation of the Route 66 Centennial Commission's plan to commemorate 100 years of Route 66 in Oklahoma. This project would support the implementation of Route 66 Centennial Commission Act (S1014) in Oklahoma.

EVIDENCE

Route 66 Centennial Commission Act (S1014) was passed in 2020 and authored by Senator Inhofe. This project will ensure Oklahoma's full participation in the Route 66 Centennial. The purpose of the Oklahoma Route 66 Centennial Commission Act is described in 69 O.S.§4020.2.

POPULATION DESCRIPTION

This project will impact communities along Route 66 and will spur massive domestic and international tourism to the state.

PERFORMANCE MEASURING

OTRD would work with the Lt. Governor's Office, the Legislature and The Oklahoma Historical Society to develop and implement the plan for celebrating the Route 66 Centennial, which begins in 2021 and runs through 2026
