PROJECT PURPOSE
Lawton Fort Sill hosts an impressive 2,000 visitors weekly. A large portion of these visitors are from out of state and seeing Oklahoma for the first time. The New regional visitor?s center would allow Lawton Fort Sill to showcase the recreational areas throughout southwest Oklahoma to visitors, the military servicemembers and their families. Having a designated space for Lawton Fort Sill Convention and Visitors Bureau would also allow our dedicated staff to work on proposals and grants to bring tourists and conventions to our community.
EVIDENCE
There is no other visitor center in SWOK along I44. Having the ability to showcase SWOK in a one stop shop will be key to visitors enjoying their experience and wanting to return. As the largest Chamber of Commerce & Convention & Visitors Bureau in Southwest Oklahoma, we are focused on tourism within Southwest Oklahoma. We are planning to make it our mission to highlight the amazing opportunities that Oklahoma has to offer in relation to tourism.
POPULATION DESCRIPTION
Vulnerable populations will be supported by an increase in tourism and the related industries due to a positive change in support roles for the Hospitality industry, and the increase in tax across the board would mean that there would be more revenue for public programs.
PERFORMANCE MEASURING
We will track the number of visitors that enter SWOK, track their spending, and track what zip codes they originated from. We will ensure correlation with an increase in sales tax, occupancy tax, and other investments in our community. We will ensure that the completion plan is on target and with in budget with reports regarding set milestones.
