PROJECT PURPOSE
Wewoka is under a DEQ consent order I & E. Wewoka needs to replace approximately 22,000 feet of sewer line and 75 manholes. Wewoka is the county seat and LMI is 64 which puts Wewoka at one of the highest poverty rates. The estimated cost for 22,000 feet if sewer lines and 75 manholes is 4,000,000 dollars. Wewoka also serves several rural water districts. Wewoka would have to borrow an estimated 4 million dollars which would raise Wewoka's rates well above what most of our demographic population could afford. Wewoka school ratio in population is 33% Native America, 33% African American and 33% White. Wewoka Schools receive free lunch meals due to this demographic. Wewoka School System is one of the highest in free lunches in the State.
