PROJECT PURPOSE

Part of the City of Norman Mayor?s Climate Agreement includes recommendations focused on increasing renewable energy throughout the city and its utility enterprises with a goal of reaching 100% renewable energy consumption by the year 2050. The Norman Utilities Authority have budgeted funds in order to provide solar arrays at the City of Norman Water Treatment Plant and Water Reclamation Facility, respectively. This project aims to increase the renewable energy used by the City while decreasing the use of energy provided by fossil fuels.

EVIDENCE

In 2018, the City adopted a resolution that implemented new recommendations to the Mayor?s Climate Agreement focusing on increasing renewable energy throughout the city and its utility enterprises with a goal of reaching 100% renewable energy consumption by the year 2050. In addition, another resolution was adopted in 2018 that was brought forth by the Sierra Club?s ?Ready for 100?. Their initiative is for the City and its utility enterprises to achieve 100% renewable energy by the year 2035. These resolutions are attached to the bottom of this document.


POPULATION DESCRIPTION

All citizens in Norman will benefit from this project by decreasing electrical costs generated by the City and moving towards greener solutions that have less impact on environmental quality.

PERFORMANCE MEASURING

Once the project is complete, NUA will compare electricity costs over several years and compare to new electrical costs for the Water Treatment Plant and Water Reclamation Facility.
