PROJECT PURPOSE

The COVID-19 pandemic and corresponding catastrophic childhood obesity and diabetes rates have amplified the need for community wellness and nutrition resources. Located in a qualified census tract near thousands of school-aged children, the Britton Christian Athletic Center (BCAC) will be a 55,000 square foot, viral-resistant, multi-sport athletic facility with tennis, pickleball, volleyball and basketball courts. The BCAC will provide indoor courts for 86 kids in our BCC Tennis Academy, and fitness space to expand after school programming with Britton Elementary students. OKCPS Police Athletic League teams will have a place to practice, and athletes from across OKCPS will train for free with elite performance equipment. Conveniently located 3 minutes from Nichols Hills, health and racquet sport amenity fees will fund operations and outreach programming. This $10 million project will grow jobs for coaches and trainers, while generating business and advertising revenue. Our partners at BritVil Food Pantry, King?s Klinic, and Restore OKC will connect community in a food desert with health and nutrition resources through the BCAC. With a $5 million matching commitment, we will impact thousands, save lives, and transform communities, while reducing the state financial burden by 10s of millions for diabetes, obesity, and future pandemic costs.

EVIDENCE

? OHIP 2020.pdf (ok.gov)?BCAC is designed in direct alignment with all 4 Oklahoma Health Improvement Plan flagship issues: Obesity, Child Health, Behavioral Health, and Tobacco. Low-income neighborhood without safe places for physical activity contributes to stress and poor diet. These behaviors may lead to heart disease, diabetes, and depression. ?Sadly, the cycle continues as children grow up with poor health. Their well-being deteriorates, which is then passed onto future generations? (pg 14) ? Volunteering and Mental Health | Psychreg?Impact of community access to BCAC ? POPULATION DESCRIPTION

The Britton Christian Athletic Center (BCAC) will change the health trajectory of thousands of kids decimated by the pandemic. Oklahoma spends over $1 Billion on obesity-related healthcare costs. Imagine the impact of a replicable model like BCAC. This initial $5 million dollar matched investment will massively reduce healthcare burden to the state, for generations. BCAC will be the nucleus of the neighborhood. 500 hundred Britton Elementary Students will have immediate access to after-school fitness programming. Thousands of students from across OKCPS and our partner organizations, like Urban Bridge, will find a safe place to compete in athletics and learn life skills, year-around! Each program and practice will generate momentum. Kids and parents will learn about nutrition and recovery. The BritVil food pantry will support nutritious food distribution in this food desert. King?s Klinic will give free physicals. We will be a one-stop, fully-integrated resource to change the health habits of whole communities. BCAC programming is 100% aligned with the 2020 Oklahoma Health Improvement Plan. Integrated with local businesses and community partners, BCAC will create millions in revenue and job growth, while saving massive healthcare costs. For our communities stuck in a health poverty, the social benefits will be absolutely priceless!

PERFORMANCE MEASURING

We will measure annual rates of change in obesity and diabetes diagnoses among k-5 children enrolled in after-school Britton Christian Church fitness programming. We will track quantitative measurements for vitamin and food distribution, month over month. We will measure OKCPS students: hours/wk change in activity; activities enrollment; and physicals provided (King?s Klinic) Adult community (non-paying) members will be voluntarily tracked through fitness classes annual changes in body-fat, obesity and diabetes diagnoses. Economic impact will be annually measured by tracking new positions for staff, coaches, trainers and volunteers, and through changes in advertising and local business revenue.
