PROJECT PURPOSE

To restore 5 miles of transportation infrastructure to accommodate increased tourism, disaster mitigation, and economic development in our community. The city's vehicle transportation infrastructure was not designed to facilitate the heavy increase of out-of-state tourism, Lake Eufaula flooding on main roadways, and travel-focused industries. In addition, we risk losing most of the economic influx in the event of flooding due to inadequate street-waterway integration. This program will ensure we keep tourism influences promoted while mitigating disaster impacts. Lake Eufaula is a hub of over two-and-a-half-million tourism visitors every year - in the event of flooding - that number decreases by 80% in city limits.

EVIDENCE

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lake_Eufaula_(Oklahoma) Due to the heavy impact of heavy truck travel along US-69 and HWY-9, we have a disproportionate impact to the streets in our community. Being one of the poorest communities in Oklahoma, this is likely Eufaula's ONLY opportunity to fund this transportation rehabilitation project. https://www.lrrb.org/pdf/201432.pdf

POPULATION DESCRIPTION

Eufaula is uniquely impacted by the pandemic due to the higher than average senior and Native American population demographics. Due to several factors, these population groups had disproportionate negative impacts from the COVID-19 pandemic.

PERFORMANCE MEASURING

Project management will be triple-supervised between municipal, grant administrator, and engineering program leaders. Being transportation infrastructure-focused, we will be able to provide progress updates via linear foot as well as tourism updates.
