PROJECT PURPOSE

We have multiple projects that we would like to address to that are innovative, enhance security for our citizens, and invest in physical infrastructure to expand the capabilities for the most vulnerable. Plans are to (1)paint the water tower, (2)install a splash pad for the City Park, (3)install tag reader security cameras at the 3 main entrances to town, (4)build a town storm shelter, (5)renovate the tennis court, and (6)replace lighting on the community ball park

EVIDENCE

The water tower is in significant need of repairs. A Splash Pad has been addressed as a means of encouraging physical activity for the youth and will have a direct impact on recreation and tourism. With limited police force, the tag readers will enable the chief of police to monitor traffic security. As our town is often in the tornado path trajectory, a storm shelter will provide a safe place. Valliant has many mobile homes without shelters. The tennis court is in need of repair. It offers place of recreation for the community youth. The community ball park needs new lights to serve the youth in softball and baseball.

POPULATION DESCRIPTION

The City of Valliant is a poverty community. The local school serves 75% free and reduced lunches. The average household income is below national level. The pandemic has led to fewer tourists and to closure of some small businesses. The youth will benefit from the free sports facilities (Splash Pad, tennis, baseball, softball). Local businesses will benefit in more revenue as citizens come into town to use the facilities. With escalating construction costs, individuals cannot afford to build home storm shelters.

PERFORMANCE MEASURING

City of Valliant employs a Streets & PWA Supervisor that will be contacting contractors and vendors, gathering cost analysis, supervising installations and construction. The Valliant Chief of Police has obtained estimates for cost of installation and operation of traffic cameras for the town perimeters. They will work with the town mayor and city council as the projects move forward.
