PROJECT PURPOSE
The purpose of this one-time funding is to provide the necessary capital to invest in the hospital for the community of Perry, Oklahoma. This project will entail renovations/upgrades to more efficiently & effectively meet the needs of the community in response to the ongoing pandemic and future health emergencies. Additionally, building space not required for current services will be repurposed to offer a new behavioral health service line to better serve the community, surrounding areas, and the state of Oklahoma. Most of the existing medical, building and physical plant equipment is near or past end of life expectancy and needs to be replaced to better respond to future health emergencies. All of these activities will aid in improving the long term financial viability of the hospital to ensure the necessary healthcare services are available to the community.
EVIDENCE
The Rural Health Hub provides an economic impact analysis tool that would be utilized to measure and monitor performance and the overall impact this community health project as on the community.
POPULATION DESCRIPTION
Rural Oklahoma communities experience greater health disparities due to geographic location, higher rates of health risk behaviors and limited access to healthcare specialist. This project would have a direct impact on improving those disparities for the Perry community and Noble county. With a county population just over 11,000, 20% 65 years or older and 23.6% under 18 years of age, improving the local healthcare infrastructure would have direct impact on those populations. Current health factors such as heart disease, diabetes, obesity and mental distress can be dramatically improved. While the total impact of the pandemic seems small in numbers, 2840 county cases and 33 deaths, the long term health effects for those impacted could be in effect for decades. Having local healthcare facilities available will ensure these individuals and others get convenient treatment when needed.
