PROJECT PURPOSE

Grading, accessibility and signage improvements to existing trails. Expansion of trail system to address the increase in park visitation and provide additional options for healthy outdoor activities. Improvements to allow access to outdoor activities, such as rock climbing, biking, kayaking, horseback riding and related activities.

EVIDENCE

The pandemic has caused a dramatic increase in Oklahomans visiting our state parks, which saw an additional 2.5 million visitors over the past year. Visitor survey responses state that hiking is the top activity and demand is high for better-maintained facilities.


POPULATION DESCRIPTION

State parks are used by all Oklahomans, with many visitors coming from surrounding rural communities, many of which lack outdoor public facilities ofr healthy activities such as hiking.

PERFORMANCE MEASURING

OTRD has a capital projects team that manages the agency's construction projects. We will utilize an existing design-build contract to implement ARPA-funded capital projects.
