PROJECT PURPOSE

The purpose of our project is an investment in physical and digital infrastructure to enhance the well-being of our Bartlesville community and the surrounding rural counties. This project will better equip us to serve the needs in our area, especially the most vulnerable of our population. It is an investment that will continue to benefit future generations providing better access to programs and services for our nearby communities that will allow us to further our innovation and help support a stronger economy by bridging the gaps in the services in our area.

EVIDENCE

Based on the latest data from the Bartlesville Strategic plan one of the strongest indications of a region's future economic development potential is defined by its ability to grow, attract and retain a workforce, particularly in the 25-44 age cohort. Knowing how we play a vital support role is crucial. Our YMCA not only serves our city, but the surrounding counties. We are in a unique area of Oklahoma that closely borders other states. Attracting a workforce that won?t commute from other states is having the infrastructure to support them, ie: childcare, before/after school programs, etc.

POPULATION DESCRIPTION

What we already know is that COVID has affected all of us. But the vulnerable populations that we serve have been impacted the most. We are a safe haven for the elderly community to continue to stay active and move their bodies so they do not decline in health. We have provided emergency childcare for healthcare workers when daycares in the community were locking down. Because we are a non-profit and host an annual campaign to support our youth scholarship fund, we also have the ability to support the underserved in our community so that no child is left out of youth sports programs due to financial hardships that may have been impacted by a loss of income due to COVID. And finally, we have been able to provide the opportunity for the community as a whole to stay healthy during the pandemic, the important connection between physical activity and mental health, and as studies have shown that staying physically active helped those who may test positive to have a less severe COVID-19 outcome

PERFORMANCE MEASURING

We already track in our software and can see gaps in services where we could better serve our local communities. We currently outsource space and the lack of space equals a lack of control of some programs where we could be more efficient. We will continue to track our success through increased membership and program enrollments, facility usage, the need for new programming as a whole and tracking increased staffing to support the growth we will see from this project.
