PROJECT PURPOSE

The project will repair a damaged bridge on Walnut Street and repairs roads that serve as a truck route, including wide loads, through Pauls Valley. The bridge became unserviceable, so the truck traffic was rerouted through the downtown area. This poses a problem for pedestrians and damages our historic brick streets.

EVIDENCE

The truck route was established for large trucks traveling on Hwy 77 to get through Pauls Valley without disturbing the downtown and more populated areas. It also gives the City a secondary route for emergency vehicles. With this route closed, the trucks are going through downtown and causing damage to streets and congesting traffic. The closing of the bridge also leaves fewer routes for our emergency vehicles to cross Rush Creek, which runs through Pauls Valley. Tourism is also directly effected with the large trucks coming through our downtown shopping area.

POPULATION DESCRIPTION

The current truck route is congesting traffic, which affects the sick and elderly's access to the nursing home and hospital. It also impairs pedestrian traffic and the response time of emergency vehicles.

PERFORMANCE MEASURING

The City will hire an engineer to plan and administer the project. The City Manager and City Clerk will work with the engineer to make sure all record keeping requirements, timelines and report requirements are met.
