PROJECT PURPOSE
Design and build a 400 space parking structure in historic Campus Corner to alleviate traffic congestion and meet the parking demand of the area. Additional parking for patrons and employees in the Campus Corner area has been an issue for many years, and it could be said that the lack of additional parking has stifled the growth of this commercial and economic hub that is adjacent to the University.
EVIDENCE
The City?s 2018 Parking Strategic Plan and 2016 Parking Study both identified the need for a parking structure in the Campus Corner area.
POPULATION DESCRIPTION
The pandemic has put additional hardships on individuals in our community as they continue to try and make ends meet in the face of job and health uncertainty. There is a need to create additional opportunities to access jobs, for both the individual and the businesses, in the Campus Corner area to ensure that this economic hub in Norman continues to thrive.
PERFORMANCE MEASURING
The usage of the parking structure will be recorded and analyzed. In addition, the amount of vehicles traveling to Campus Corner before and after the parking structure is completed will be analyzed. City staff will ensure that required programmatic data is collected and reported as appropriate.
