PROJECT PURPOSE

SB 1612 and 1613 would allow for the creation of the Oklahoma First Responders Wellness Division and would set up an operating account/trust to accept outside investment and donations. ARPA would be used to leverage this account and establish statewide Wellness Center(s).

EVIDENCE

Evidence based models used in creation of technology and services. No other state has a multi discipline group coming together to create best use of Wellness Center and Oklahoma is poised to create a model program.

POPULATION DESCRIPTION

First responders, firefighters, law enforcement in all counties are effected by cumulative trauma, PTSD, addiction, mental wellness, financial strain and normal health concerns. Covid only intensified all of the issues and will have lingering effects on mental wellness for years to come. In addition to the pandemic, propaganda against funding police only grew causing negatively impacting recruitment and retention. This program is positive police reform. When we invest in the wellness of all involved with public safety, we improve their lives and the public in general.
