PROJECT PURPOSE

Tulsa Little League provides resources to youth that typically cannot afford competitive sports. The ball fields at LaFortune park are currently in complete disrepair not only with current building standards, but to the point of not being repairable and needing complete replacement. The funding from the State will be incorporated with private funding, along with County dollars to completely renovate the park and via the private endowment have a sustainable mechanism for maintenance and repairs when needed.

EVIDENCE

Sources: Little League & Challenger League. These can be cited for evidence of programs and incentives provided for disabled youth as well as the distressed demographic youth that are sponsored to enable them to participate in baseball as well as receive the training to further development. The enhancement of the existing location will allow for more youth to participate from a larger geographical area.

POPULATION DESCRIPTION

The athletic complex that has been in place for the last six decades has served families that were economically distressed before the COBVIDF 19 pandemic. The pandemic has worsened the economic stress that was present prior to the outbreak of the virus, The fields have also served families that did not suffer economic distress until the pandemic became entrenched among the population. Additionally, the youth of Tulsa and the surrounding area significantly reduced participation in any social activity, including baseball, softball, and volleyball. This led to the isolation of large segments of society. The children, both wealthy and impoverished, suffered the same consequences resulting from the COVID outbreak. The project will create a usable facility where it is less likely to lead to the spread of the virus, mainly it is because it is an outdoor venue. This project will help address the social needs of the population, particularly those children that have not reached the age of majority. There will be the psychological benefits of not being able to associate with friends and other children. The physical benefits are likewise as obvious. After extended periods of isolation and lack of exercise, The ballpark will encourage physical activity through sports.
