PROJECT PURPOSE

Implement innovative telemedicine health delivery systems to increase access and effective utilization of the healthcare system. One investment would be a health delivered at home model that allows a patient to be treated in their own home. Key features would include virtual visits and physical care delivery with a 24/7 medical command center staffed by an array of clinicians and an integrated care team in the community who deliver care to patients at their bedside. Successful implementation would create a national model healthcare delivery system that transforms rural health outcomes and economics. Plan would be to expand use to both physical and mental health throughout the state with emphasis on rural communities.

EVIDENCE

This would be a new model of healthcare delivery. This innovative, nontraditional form of care will allow for there to be no compromises for Oklahomans receiving adequate care, even for rural areas with the highest workforce shortages. Telemedicine will be a component of a larger, transformational approach to health care for the underserved.

POPULATION DESCRIPTION

Many of our rural populations are particularly vulnerable without the adequate levels of healthcare workforce needed to continue public health in these areas. In conjunction with the new OSDH EHR system, telemedicine can be used to fill the access to care gap. An innovative telemedicine approach can provide an increase in healthcare quality while achieving a decrease in cost of care.

PERFORMANCE MEASURING

Project performance will be measured by successful implementation of national model healthcare delivery system. Rural health outcomes will also be measured.
