PROJECT PURPOSE

The Children?s Center Rehabilitation Hospital continues to grow and expand our services to reach more children in need of the unique healthcare services available at our facility. Beyond serving children with complex medical and rehabilitation needs, the hospital has evolved to offer outpatient pediatric primary care, outpatient therapies, and safety and health advocacy programs within the community. Recent expansion has included opening a community pharmacy to serve our patients as well as the community, the creation of the Adaptive Recreation and Fine Arts Center which encompasses an activities of daily living center where children can learn, explore, and prepare for re-entry into their homes and the broader community at-large in a safe and therapeutic environment, and a new state-of-art adaptive ballfield where children with disabilities can engage and participate in sports and recreation programs. To further the mission of the hospital, ?maximizing the potential of every child,? and to prepare for future community needs following the pandemic, we are targeting the following areas for future renovation and expansion: ? Expansion of Outpatient Services ? Community Center/Health and Wellness Center ? Young Adult Inpatient Services ? Family Support Housing Center ? Renovations of Current Hospital Facilities

EVIDENCE

The projects and programs of The Children?s Center Rehabilitation Hospital have a history of improving outcomes for children with complex medical illness or traumatic brain or spinal cord injury. As a fully accredited program by CARF (Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities), The Children?s Center Rehabilitation Hospital reports outcomes information to the Uniform Data System for Medical Rehabilitation, a not-for-profit organization that provides the most comprehensive rehabilitation data for the industry. We use these outcome measures to assess the progress of patients, and these measures will provide data on the success of the programs and services we provide.

POPULATION DESCRIPTION

The Children?s Center Rehabilitation Hospital provides inpatient and outpatient medical services to children from across the state of Oklahoma. We offer unique, specialized post-acute services. When a child has received interventions from other health care facilities, but needs additional rehabilitative services from an injury, or needs further supportive services due to a complex medical condition, we are the source of hope for children and their families. We offer the compassionate services and the best opportunity for success in their future. While we serve a wide range of families with varying incomes, the vast majority of our patients are Medicaid eligible through income eligibility or due to the physical disability of the child, with some of the children being within the custody of the Department of Human Services (DHS). Children with complex medical conditions and other disabilities were particularly impacted by the pandemic, due to issues with accessing the necessary medic

PERFORMANCE MEASURING

Improved health status for the children with complex medical conditions with traumatic injury or illness, and expanding the reach of services to a vulnerable population will be measures of performance of the project. Increasing services available, reaching more children in the state in need of the specialized services that we offer, as well as expanding our health and injury prevention programs would have a significant impact to children in Oklahoma.
