PROJECT PURPOSE
The purpose of this project is to meet the aerospace workforce demands in Oklahoma. The pandemic has directly impacted the workforce in the aerospace industry. Ensuring that we meet today?s need and prepare the pipeline for the future has been exacerbated by the pandemic. This project will provide additional access for high school students in aircraft maintenance, engineering tech certification and ability to customize training to the specific needs of the aerospace industry. This will allow for the utilization of an abandoned middle school to be transformed into a world-class training facility accessible across the Career Tech system. It will also compliment the revitalization project that Midwest City is doing in that area. This facility is within blocks of Tinker Air Force base and allows for expansion of the specific training that Mid-Del Technology Center (MDTC) is currently providing on base property. Mid-Del Technology Center has held that federal contract since 1980.
EVIDENCE
MDTC will use the number of individuals and companies served, along with contact hours in the previous three years of opening the facility as baseline data and compare it to the same data points moving forward.
POPULATION DESCRIPTION
MDTC serves a low socioeconomic, ethnically and racial diverse community. National statistics indicate that communities with these factors are disproportionately affected by the pandemic. Of the 12,568 public school students in the Mid-Del public school system, 52.9% are eligible for free or reduced lunches according to federal guidelines. A highly skilled and trained workforce will attract new companies to Oklahoma and will enable the existing aviation workforce to upskill and expand their capabilities.
PERFORMANCE MEASURING
The measurement for the project will be broken into categories: facility, delivery of instruction, number of individuals served, contact hours and number of companies served. The benchmarks for facility completion will be broken out to not exceed October 2026, quarterly updates will be provided. The delivery of instruction will be broken down by aerospace curriculum areas and validated by industry. The number of individuals served and contact hours will be reported quarterly. The number of companies served will be reported on a monthly basis.
