PROJECT PURPOSE

The purpose of this project is to construct a conduit system and install a 288 strand fiber cable along 1,160 miles of using Oklahoma Turnpike and Department of Transportation Right-Of-Ways. This will bring State-owned fiber to 20+ unserved/underserved counties that can be used by local and national broadband providers for mid-mile dark fiber access. This will also allow the Oklahoma Transportation to place Cameras, Dynamic Messaging Signs, and Weather Sensors along rural routes for safety. This will also assist in providing fiber to approximately 180 educational and state sites located within two miles of the proposed route. The Oklahoma Transportation will be working with OneNet, another state agency to provide these state services.

EVIDENCE

We have acquired this data from the State Agency Broadband Task Force in conjunction with the House Technology Committee. We've also gathered information on counties from the FCC Fixed Broadband website.

POPULATION DESCRIPTION

Rural counties, towns and schools with inadequate broadband access have suffered due to this being a limiting factor for working from home and remote schooling.

PERFORMANCE MEASURING

We will hire in an engineering group to monitor performance and divide and bid out in 50 mile sections of construction. We will have our internal GIS/Fiber group as well as an external fiber auditor monitor progress.
